EASTERN COAST OF CANTABRIA |
|
|
The
eastern part of Cantabria has, besides
numerous beaches and historic villages
and resorts, many natural landscapes
of great beauty and scenic interest.
Castro Urdiales, Laredo, Santoña,
are villages where you can enjoy the
old part´s buildings and the fishing
port. Between these villages and the
city are beautiful
beaches with white and fine sand,
(Langre, Ajo, Noja, Laredo, Oriñón...)
surrounded by spectacular
cliffs .
It is highly recommended to take the
boats crossing the Bay of Santander,
from Somo to Santander and also the
boats from Laredo to Santoña |

Or else, we could go to Ramales to
visit the "Covalanas" caves.
Along this valley flow the rivers
Asón and its tributary "Gándara".
The source of river Asón is
worth visiting as it is the origin
of an espectacular waterfall more
than 50 metres high.
We can also visit Arredondo, Riva
and the summit of Fuentelasvaras which
takes us back to "La Casona".

NATURE |
The importance of nature in our region
can be seen in the nature reserve of
the Santoña and Noja marshes
and the park of the Asón
heights.
We begin our route here, between the
steep mountains of Soba Valley. The
rivers "Gándara and Asón"
begin here. The latter starts with a
spectacular cascade. We go down the
river until we reach its mouth in the
Santoña
marshes which are rich in animal
life.
The stuary of Limpias is formed in this
area. This stuary or "Ría"
joins the one of the Rada river which
brings the waters flowing from Clarín
river in the Aras Valley. |
